Sleeper Teams Poised to Break Into the Playoffs | NFL Betting Predictions

2022-23 NFL Regular Season

  • When: Sep. 8, 2022 – Jan. 8, 2023

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars improved on both sides of the football. Jacksonville’s defense should terrorize opponents for sure.

Rookie LB Devin Lloyd and SLB Travon Walker join a defense that already includes the fantastic Josh Allen. Corner Shaquil Griffin can guard an opponent’s best receiver one-on-one

The offense has a chance to be spectacular. A lot of it depends on quarterback Trevor Lawrence and running back Travis Etienne.

Etienne especially should have a great time running behind a line that includes right guard Brandon Scherff. If Lawrence picks up his game, and how could he not after the 2021 disaster that was playing for Urban Meyer, the Jags will challenge Indianapolis and Tennessee for the AFC South division title.

New Orleans Saints

Tampa Bay is one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. New Orleans is an underdog. The Saints odds to lift the Lombardi Trophy land around 49-to-1.

But the Saints can beat Tampa and win the NFC South. New Orleans’ offense got much better after general manager Mickey Loomis and head coach Dennis Allen drafted Ohio State wide receiver Chris Olave. A few days later, Loomis signed Jarvis Landry.

Allen’s defense, the new HC was the Saints’ defensive coordinator, will be one of the top five best, if not the overall best, units in the league.

Safeties Marcus Maye and Tyrann Mathieu are two of the best players in the NFL at their position. Demario Davis is happy. Ends Marcus Davenport and Payton Turner are healthy.

Miami Dolphins

Most agree the Dolphins will end up the second best team in the AFC East. But we must remember that the best team in the division, the team many believe wins the Super Bowl, is East rival Buffalo.

The Fins traded for wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Hill, WR Jaylen Waddle, and TE Mike Gesicki will help Tua Tagovailoa become an elite passer.

If you play fantasy football, draft former Arizona running back Chase Edmonds. Head coach Mike McDaniel loves to run the pigskin.

The defense was terrific last season. So there’s no reason to believe it won’t be terrific this season. Miami has a real shot to make the playoffs.

New York Giants

The Giants are the longest shot among the four teams in the NFC East to win the division. But NYG won’t in any way resemble last year’s disaster.

One of the reasons to love the Giants is because former Buffalo offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is now the head coach. Daboll drafted OT Evan Neal and DE Kayvon Thibodeaux.

If Saquon Barkley is one-hundred percent, Daboll will come up with plays to get Saquon loose in the secondary. The defense should have one of the better lines in the league with Thibodeaux joining Jihad Ward, Dexter Lawrence, and Leonard Williams.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders are flying under the radar because Kansas City plays in the AFC West. Also, Denver traded for quarterback Russell Wilson and the Chargers improved their defense.

But although nobody is paying attention to Vegas, the Raiders also improved. Las Vegas hired Josh McDaniels as their head coach. McDaniels made a trade for former Green Bay Packer Davante Adams.

The Patriots’ former offensive coordinator knows what he’s doing. Adams and Derek Carr played college ball together at Fresno State. So we should expect the offense to score way more points this season than it did last season.

Las Vegas is good enough to make the playoffs. Don’t be surprised when LV beats the Broncos, Chiefs, and Bolts and wins the AFC West.

Saints Road to 2019 Super Bowl 53

New Orlean Saints don’t have a pick on the first night of the 2019 NFL Draft. At No 62 overall, they have to wait. Luckily for them, they have a pretty strong team and aren’t necessarily looking to fill any specific position. Plus, the Saints have exercised the fifth-year option on Louisville’s, Sheldon Rankins.

Still, New Orleans isn’t a team who just sits around, especially when GM, Mickey Loomis and coach Sean Peyton have their eyes set on a player. In fact, in the past 12 NFL Drafts, they’ve collectively traded up over 15 times. So, are they really going sit out Thursday night?
