This weekend, the third matchday of the 2023 MLS season will kick off, with teams hoping to start to separate themselves from the pack in their respective conferences. There are also some very exciting matches set to take place between teams that are off to hot starts, and potential title contenders as well.

Here, we look at the top-three MLS betting opportunities for this weekend, including some of those teams that are off to a strong start.

Early in the MLS season, FC Cincinnati and Seattle Sounders have both emerged as teams that are poised to stick around near the top of the MLS table. Cincinnati has earned four points in two matches, while the Sounders have claimed six out of a possible six points in their opening two contests. On Saturday, they will meet in Cincinnati, where both teams have the chance to make a statement by beating another quality foe.

From a betting perspective, Cincinnati makes a ton of sense here, thanks to the early season composition of the Sounders’ schedule. Seattle has yet to take on an away match yet this season, beating up on Colorado Rapids and Real Salt Lake at home to open the season. Look for Cincy to deal Seattle their first loss of the season as Seattle struggles for the first time on the campaign.

Philadelphia Union vs Chicago Fire

An interesting Eastern Conference matchup will take place on Saturday, when the Philadelphia Union host Chicago Fire. Philadelphia has taken three points from two matches, splitting their first two outings of the year, while the Fire secured a draw in their only match of the year so far. The fixture list for Philadelphia could make Chicago a prime candidate to get at least a point out of this game in Philly.

The Union had to play a match in El Salvador during the week, as they took part in CONCACAF Champions League action. While American sides typically do not bring their best lineups to those games, having to go through all of that travel and deal with another competition can be grueling for a team. As a result, Chicago could come through and beat one of the Eastern Conference favorites.

Our final MLS betting look for the weekend is the lone game on the schedule for Sunday, between LAFC and the New England Revolution. The defending champions have won their lone match of the season so far, while the Revs have won each of their first two. But both teams cannot win this match, as one or both teams will drop points for the first time in the 2023 MLS season.

From a betting perspective, the under might be worth playing in this match for a couple of reasons. First, the Revs have been great defensively so far this season, as they have yet to allow a goal through two matches. On top of that, the high stakes of this early season matchup could lead to both teams playing conservatively.
