San Francisco vs Atlanta | Odds, Picks & Predictions MLB

It’s a potential National League playoff preview on Monday when the San Francisco Giants visit the Atlanta Braves, who are favored on the MLB odds. Both were in the playoffs last year but didn’t meet in the postseason.

How to Bet Giants at Braves MLB Odds & TV Info

Why Bet on San Francisco?

The Giants are 18-14 on the road this season, the fourth-best mark in the NL. SF has won seven of its past 11 away. The Giants have started this road trip at 2-1 following a 4-3 upset loss in Pittsburgh on Sunday. There was actually history in that one on the Bucs’ side as Jack Suwinski hit his third homer of the game in the ninth inning for the win. Suwinski was the first rookie to cap a three-homer game with a game-ending shot. He was the eighth player since 2000 to hit three home runs in a game, including a walk-off.

Thairo Estrada had homered off Pittsburgh closer David Bednar leading off the top of the ninth, tying the game at 3. It was his second big fly in his last eight games. Joc Pederson kicked off the scoring with a two-run single to center field in the opening frame. It was his lone hit in four at-bats for San Francisco.  The Giants are now 16-17 this season in games decided by just two runs or fewer. They are 18-3 when they hit at least two homers this season.

It’s right-hander Logan Webb (6-2, 3.43) on the mound. Webb struck out nine while scattering five hits across seven scoreless innings in last Tuesday’s 4-2 win over the Royals. Webb was in complete command, with the nine strikeouts the second-most he has posted in a start this season. He threw 112 pitches (68 strikes).

Webb decreased his sinker usage and relied mostly on his slider and changeup, using his offspeed pitches to generate 17 of his 20 swinging strikes: “Everything is going on the horizontal axis,” Royals third baseman Nicky Lopez said. “His slider’s this way, changeup that way. Nothing’s really up or down. He’s proven he’s a tough pitcher.”

Webb brings a 3.43 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 68/20 K/BB ratio (13 starts; 78 2/3 innings) into this game. The Giants are 30-9 in Webb’s 39 outings since the start of the 2021 campaign, the second-best team winning percentage in the Majors (.763), behind only the Blue Jays’ .781 (they are 25-7 in games started by Alek Manoah). San Francisco has been nearly unbeatable when Webb takes the mound at home, going 18-1 since the start of the last season.

“It’s really what we expect,” manager Gabe Kapler said of Webb. “That’s where he put the bar, and now we expect him to meet it.”

After posting the second-worst ERA of any team last month (5.44 ERA), Giants pitchers have rebounded for a 2.61 figure in the first 17 games of June. That’s the third-lowest of any team.

Why Bet on Atlanta?

The Braves had their 14-game winning streak snapped Friday at the Cubs and were upset again Saturday but salvaged the finale Sunday 6-0. Ian Anderson pitched three-hit ball into the seventh inning and Matt Olson hit a career-high three doubles. He’s been quite a disappointment in the home run department with eight, but his 27 doubles lead the majors by four over Rafael Devers, J.D. Martinez and Ketel Marte.

Travis d’Arnaud and Michael Harris II homered for the World Series champion Braves, who avoided their first three-game losing streak of the season. The Braves went 21-8 in a stretch of 29 straight games against teams that were under .500 at the time of the matchup.

Now, the Braves head home to play four games against the Giants and three against the Dodgers. After matching up against these NL West powers, they will head to Philadelphia for a three-game set against a Phillies club that has also been unbeatable most of June.

“That’s a tough stretch, but everybody goes through it,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “I think we did a good job in this last stretch of beating the teams you’re supposed to beat and that’s not easy to do. That’s really hard to do.”

It’s lefty Max Fried (7-2, 2.90 ERA) on the mound Monday. Fried allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings last Tuesday in the Braves’ 10-4 win over the Nationals. Fried struck out the first five batters he faced as he cruised through the first two innings. He then ran into trouble in the third, loading the bases on a walk and a couple singles. Fried didn’t give up another hit in the frame but allowed three runs, anyway, on a groundout, a wild pitch and a sac fly. He couldn’t quite get through six, with a pair of two-out singles plating a fourth run. It’s just the second time in his last 11 tries that Fried failed to record a quality start. Fried is 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA in five career games vs. the Giants.

The Braves are one of two teams in the majors without a three-game losing streak this season. The Mets are the other team. When they Braves score first in a game this season, they are 27-4, the best record in the major leagues. When the opposition scores first, they are 11-25.
