The Albany Great Danes jumped to NCAA Division I in 1999 offseason by joining the America East Conference with a slow start. After 2004–05, the Danes compiled a 21–11 season taking on both the eventual national champion Florida Gators and UCLA Bruins and in 2006 UAlbany beats Vermont to earn its first America East title and trip to the NCAA Tournament.
