The 2023 PGA Tour season rolls on with its annual stop at our neighbors to the north for the RBC Canadian Open at Oakdale Country Club just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Outside of The Open Championship and U.S. Open, the Canadian Open is the longest annually played tournament on the PGA Tour’s schedule and debuted 119 years ago in 1904.
Rory McIlroy has won the last two versions of the event, winning his first title in 2019 and following that victory up with a win last season after the tournament was canceled for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. McIlroy defeated Tony Finau by two shots at St. George’s Golf and Country Club for his 21st PGA Tour title.

Canadian Open:
When: June 8–11, 2023
Where: Oakdale Golf & Country Club | Toronto, Canada
The Course
Oakdale Country Club is hosting this event for the first time ever. The property has 27 holes, and the layout for tournament play will blend the three, 9-hole tracks together. In all, the scorecard will read as a par-72, and the yardage will be approximately 7,200 yards.
Accuracy off the tee will be a premium, along with precise second shots into small green complexes that are undulated.
For many of the golfers in the field, the event will be the first time they’ve played the course.
The Field
Many of the best golfers in the field are choosing to forgo this tournament with the US Open the following week. Still, there are a handful of top international players using the Canadian Open as one last competitive event before heading to Los Angeles Country Club.
McIlroy headlines the field that includes some of England’s best golfing talent in Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Justin Rose, and Tommy Fleetwood. Fitzpatrick is aiming to work out any last issues with his game before he tries to defend his U.S. Open title.
Sam Burns and Cameron Young lead the American contingent. Canada’s Corey Conners will be the fan-favorite and hopes to be the first Canadian to win the event since Pat Fletcher in 1954.
The no. 1 amateur in the world, Ludvig Aberg, will make his pro debut this week. The Texas Tech star claimed his PGA Tour card after securing the top spot on the final PGA Tour University rankings.
