2024 College Football Week 6 ATS Picks: Top Games to Bet On

If you’re looking to bet on college football today, Week 6 brings some exciting matchups where betting against the spread (ATS) can be a strong strategy. This week offers numerous options, but we’ve highlighted five standout games that are primed for action with the spread.

2024 College Football Week 6 ATS Picks: Tops Games to Bet In
Bet Smart: Must-Have ATS Picks for the Biggest Games This Weekend!

2024 NCAA Division I FBS Football Season | 155th season of college football in the United States
Week 6: Thursday, October 3rd – Saturday, October 5th, 2024

Betting College Football Week 6 Games

The college football action is really going to start to heat up this weekend as there are some massive battles set to take place.

Now is the time when the best teams start to emerge, and there are plenty of top teams in action.

Betting against the spread is always a good option when it comes to college football as that is a great way to cash in.

There are so many games to choose from this weekend, but five games really stand out with the spread.

Writer’s Picks for the Sixth Week of the NCAAF Season

Missouri Tigers +2.0 vs Texas A&M Aggies

Saturday, October 5th, 2024

The Missouri Tigers are looking to stay undefeated on the year, but they are going to have their toughest challenge yet at Texas A&M.

This should be a terrific matchup, and it’s also going to be a contrast of styles.

Texas A&M continues to have one of the best home field advantages in the sport, but it’s going to take more than that in this one.

Missouri appears to be on a mission this season, and they are going to cash in with another big win.

NCAA Week 6 Pick: Missouri

SMU Mustangs vs Louisville Cardinals -7.0

Saturday, October 5th, 2024

The Louisville Cardinals just went on the road to Notre Dame and suffered their first loss of the NCAAF season.

Louisville can’t afford to have any more losses moving forward, and that’s going to lead to an interesting game on Saturday.

SMU is going to give Louisville a game, but this is a matchup in which the Cardinals should eventually break through.

The spread for this game is pretty tight at just seven points, and Louisville should be able to win this game and cover the spread.

NCAA Week 6 Pick: Louisville

Auburn Tigers +24.0 vs Georgia Bulldogs

Saturday, October 5th, 2024

The SEC is always a gauntlet, but there are always a couple of teams that stand out.

Georgia appears to be one of those teams.

Georgia did just suffer a tough loss at Alabama, and that is going to cast a bit of doubt over this team.

Auburn is not a great team, and you shouldn’t expect to see them to keep this game close.

The Tigers can keep this matchup within 24 points and that is the bet that you should be making.

NCAA Week 6 Pick: Auburn

Tennessee Volunteers -13.5 vs Arkansas Razorbacks

Saturday, October 5th, 2024

The Tennessee Volunteers are an explosive offensive team this season, and they have already picked up a couple of big wins.

Tennessee will be on the road at Arkansas this weekend, and this will be a tough matchup.

This spread just isn’t large enough for a battle between two teams with a very different start to the team.

Arkansas might be able to keep it close for a half, but Tennessee is going to roll to a win by more than 14 points.

NCAA Week 6 Pick: Tennessee

Michigan Wolverines +2.5 vs Washington Huskies

Saturday, October 5th, 2024

The Michigan Wolverines are trying to win a second straight national championship, but they have not looked sharp.

Michigan was able to find a way to beat Minnesota at home, but it’s going to take a much better effort this time around.

Washington was also in the College Football Playoff last season, but they lost a ton of talent from that team.

The Huskies are going to put up a great fight, but it will be Michigan that comes up with the win.

NCAA Week 6 Pick: Michigan

How to Bet on College Football? Let’s Find Out

Betting on college football can be both exciting and profitable if you understand the different types of wagers available.

The most common bets include moneyline, point spread, and over/under totals.

The moneyline is a straight-up bet on which team will win, while the point spread levels the playing field by assigning a favorite and underdog.

Betting on the spread means predicting if the favorite will win by more than the listed points or if the underdog will cover the spread by either winning outright or losing by fewer points.

Live betting is also available for college football, allowing you to place bets while the game is happening.

Nebraska Cornhuskers at Illinois Illini

ATS Odds: Illinois -3.5
Friday, October 6th, 2023 at 8:00 pm | FS1
Memorial Stadium (Champaign, IL), Champaign, IL

Neither team is living up to preseason expectations. However, 2 of Illinois’ 3 losses were versus quality teams Penn State and Kansas.

The other loss came against a decent offensive team, Purdue, on the road. Nebraska has a terrible offense. So since this happens on Illinois’ field, the Illini roll to a win and cover.

Maryland Terrapins at 4 Ohio State Buckeyes

ATS Odds: Ohio State -19.5
Saturday, October 7th, 2023 at 12:00 pm | ESPN
Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field, Columbia, MO

Ohio State will win but covering a close to 20-point spread versus an undefeated Maryland squad won’t be easy. Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa has thrown for close to 1,500 yards, 13 touchdowns, and just 3 picks in 5 games.

Tagovailoa could expose some issues on Ohio State’s defense. Maryland’s defense has played well enough to contain Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka. Terps keep the game closer than the spread.

College Football Week 6 ATS Pick: Maryland +19.5 | Bet Maryland at 4 Ohio Stat

Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Wisconsin Badgers

ATS Odds: Wisconsin -14
Saturday, October 7th, 2023 at 12:00 pm | Peacock
Camp Randall Stadium, Madison, WI

3-1 Wisconsin is a quality team. The Badgers’ lone loss this season came versus one of the best teams in the nation, the Washington State Cougars.

Not only that, but Wisconsin rallied to make the loss respectable, by 11 points, and it came versus the Cougs in Pullman. Badgers cover this spread.

College Football Week 6 ATS Pick: Wisconsin -14 | Bet Rutgers at Wisconsin

Virginia Tech Hokies at 5 Florida State Seminoles

ATS Odds: Florida State -24
Saturday, October 7th, 2023 at 3:30 pm | ABC
Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, FL

Florida State tackles Virginia Tech off a bye. The Seminoles required the bye after beating rival Clemson in overtime in Death Valley in their last.

VA Tech is 2-3 straight up this season. The Hokies have lost to okay but not great teams Purdue, Rutgers, and Marshall. FSU rolls.

College Football Week 6 ATS Pick: Florida State -24 | Bet Virginia Tech at 5 Florida Statea

11 Alabama Crimson Tide at Texas A&M Aggies

ATS Odds: Alabama -2.5
Saturday, October 7th, 2023 at 3:30 pm | ABC
Kyle Field, College Station, TX

In Alabama’s last couple of games, quarterback Jalen Milroe has turned it on. Milroe completed over 81% of his passes agianst Ole Miss.

Then in the next game versus Mississippi State, Jalen completed over 83% of his passes. For sure, beating Texas A&M on the road won’t be easy, but Milroe and the Tide have begun to pick up the pace on both sides of the ball.

College Football Week 6 ATS Pick: Alabama -2.5 | Bet Alabama at Texas A&M
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Game

Purdue Boilermakers at Iowa Hawkeyes

ATS Odds: Iowa -2.5
Saturday, October 7th, 2023 at 3:30 pm | Peacock
Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, IA

Iowa’s lone loss came against Penn State and it was on the road. The game snowballed against the Hawkeyes in that contest.

Purdue beat Illinois in their last, but this is the Boilermakers’ first road game since their second matchup, a win agianst VA Tech. Iowa should bounce back and play Kirk Ferentz type defense, meaning Purdue struggles to move the football.

College Football Week 6 ATS Pick: Iowa -2.5 | Bet Purdue at Iowa
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Game

Colorado Buffalos at Arizona State Sun Devils

ATS Odds: Colorado -4
Saturday, October 7th, 2023 at 6:30 pm | PAC12
Mountain America Stadium, Tempe, AZ

Arizona State plays with heart. But on paper, Colorado has too much speed on both sides of the ball for ASU to get it done.

The Buffalos played great in a 7-point loss to USC in their last. The Buffs can hang with most teams on the scoreboard. In this case, Colorado should move the ball against an ASU defense that allowed Cal to score 24 in a loss.

College Football Week 6 ATS Pick: Colorado -4 | Bet Colorado at Arizona State

15 Oregon State Beavers at California Golden Bears

ATS Odds: Oregon State -9.5
Saturday, October 7th, 2023 at 10:00 pm | PAC12
California Memorial Stadium, Berkeley, CA

Speaking of California, the Golden Bears have played 2 quality teams this season and they lost both. Auburn came to Berkeley and beat Cal 14-10.

The Bears traveled to Washington and lost to Michael Penix Jr. and the Huskies 59-32. The loss could have been much worse if Washington didn’t pull their starters. Oregon State is one of the nation’s top squads. Beavers win by at least 14.

NCAAF 2021 Regular Season – Week 6 ATS Betting Picks

Previous Betting News

It has been a rather crazy start to the college football season through the opening 5 weeks. While Alabama and Georgia have maintained their spots in the top 2, the rankings have changed dramatically from week to week below them. This weekend, we saw Oregon drop out of the top 4 after a surprising loss to Stanford. We are going to see another team make that drop this coming weekend, as we have #3 Iowa and #4 Penn State going head-to-head in Week 6 action. While we have been killing it in our SU and O/U picks this season, we are not doing so well in out ATS picks. Let’s see if we can turn that around in Week 6 of the college football season, so you can get ready to bet against the NCAAF odds.

Week 6 ATS Picks for the 2021 Season | NCAA Football Betting

Maryland Terrapins at Ohio State Buckeyes (-21 ½)

Over the past few weeks, we have continually talked about all the surprise results we have seen this season. One of the early surprises saw Ohio State lose at home to the Oregon Ducks. While that loss did not totally kill their chances to get into the playoffs, the Buckeyes are well aware that they cannot afford to make another mistake. It has been a slow process, but it does now look as though Ohio State are rounding into form, which I think we will see more of this weekend. Maryland started the season unbeaten, but they got their first real test last weekend, going down 51-14 to Iowa. They come into this one having gone 2-4 ATS in their last 6 versus the Buckeyes. Ohio State is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games played in the month of October.

Boise State Broncos at BYU Cougars (-5 ½)

We all tend to focus on the top 4 teams and those who are likely to get into a playoff spot by the end of the season. That very often means ignoring good teams that are not part of the Power 5 conferences. Adopting that attitude means potentially missing out on very decent betting opportunities.

The BYU Cougars are one team that are perhaps not getting enough love this season given that they are an Independent. At 5-0, though, they absolutely should not be ignored. This weekend, they welcome in the Boise State Broncos, who have gone just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 meetings with BYU. There are a couple of reasons to like BYU here, starting with the fact that they are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 October games. They are also 10-4 ATS in their last 14 versus the Mountain West.

Michigan Wolverines (-3) at Nebraska Cornhuskers

Another team that is quietly moving up the rankings is the Michigan Wolverines, who have started the season with 5 straight wins. Yes, their bigger games all come in the second half of the season, but it’s still possible to build some serious momentum before those bigger games arrive. The Wolverines have a tricky one this weekend, as they will be on the road to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who have started the season at 3-3. The Cornhuskers are coming off a big win over Northwestern in Week 5, but this is definitely a step up. The Wolverines have covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 games, and while Nebraska has covered in each of their last 5, I think it will be Michigan who win and cover this weekend.

NCAAF Season Week 6 ATS Expert Analysis

Previous Betting News

We are about to head into Week 6 of the college football season, although some will argue that the real games began a couple of weeks ago when the SEC came to play. Either way, we have another busy weekend ahead of us and a lot of games to break down. We are going to do out best to put together some winning picks, but we are going to break them down by wager type. For the purposes of this piece, we will be looking at against the spread selections, but also be on the lookout for our SU and O/U picks, which we will have coming your way this week. Let’s jump right in and see if we can get some winners, along with their NCAAF odds.

NCAAF ATS Picks Week 6 | College Football Betting

Florida Gators (-7) at Texas A&M Aggies

The Florida Gators have come storming out of the gate, with QB Kyle Trask throwing 10 TD passes through their opening two games of the season. They have been a fabulous bet against the spread of late, going 8-3-1 ATS through their last 12 games. They have also been a sure bet in Week 6 of the season, covering the spread in each of their last 7 in that week. The Aggies are 1-1 to start the season and they have a very inexperienced secondary that could well be picked apart by this potent Gators offense. Conference games are always tough, but I think the Gators are a very good bet to cover here.

Pittsburgh Panthers (-5 ½) at Boston College Eagles

If you look at the recent trends for the Panthers, you see a team that is just 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games. The Panthers have been winning, though, and are 3-1 in the early going this season, but that has not translated to covering the spread. That said, October has been a very good month for them, as they have covered the spread in 7 of their last 9 games played in that month. The Eagles have been great ATS, covering in 8 of their last 10, but I still think they are going to lose and fail to cover here. I am on the Panthers to win this one going away.

Miami Hurricanes (+15) at Clemson Tigers

Given how dominant the Clemson Tigers have been in the ACC over the past few years, it is always a bit of a risk to bet against them. I think, though, that we might be looking at a matchup this weekend where that spread seems just a little too large. Let’s consider the fact that the Tigers have failed to cover this season and are now on a run of failing to cover in 4 straight games. The Hurricanes have not had a lot of joy against Clemson in recent years, but they are also 5-1 ATS in their last 6 versus conference foes. Let’s take a bit of a shot and go with Miami to cover.

You might also want to take a look at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who are a 21-point favorite against the Florida State Seminoles. I try to steer clear of these bigger spreads, but there is a huge talent gap between these two teams, which make the Irish ATS a tempting wager.

I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?

2019 College Football Week 6 ATS Betting Picks

Previous Betting News

Entering the College Football Week 6, it’s the usual suspects who are once again in as the favorites to make the playoffs. That was almost not the case, though, as the defending National Champion Clemson Tigers had themselves a might big scare last weekend, barely surviving against the North Carolina Tar Heels.

That’s all in the past now, so it’s time to start looking ahead to the action that is coming in Week 6. We are now getting into the heart of the conference matchups, which is where the rankings can really start to change. Let’s take a look at what we believe to be some of the best ATS picks for Week 6 of the NCAA Football betting action.

2019 College Football Week 6 ATS Betting Picks

Oklahoma State Cowboys (-10) at Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Big 12 is always fun to watch if you are a fan of offensive-minded football, so don’t be surprised to see some of those conference games in out O/U picks.

For now, we are going to settle on a series that has been incredibly one-sided in recent years, with the Cowboys winning 9 of their last 10 meetings with the Red Raiders.

It’s not just that they have always seemed to find a way to win, it’s also that they have done so rather convincingly, winning by an average of around 15 PPG in those last 10 meetings. With that in mid, 10 points seems like a bit of a bargain here.

College Football Week 6 Betting Trends

  • Cowboys are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games
  • Cowboys are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on the road
  • Red Raiders are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games
  • Red Raiders are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games played on a Saturday

North Carolina Tar Heels (-10) at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

The Tar Heels delivered back to back wins in their opening 2 games of the season before falling to 3-straight losses. It was the last of those defeats that was almost the biggest surprise of the lot, as they came within a 2-point conversion of knocking off the Clemson Tigers in Week 5.

UNC are now 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games, while also going 4-1 ATS in their last 5 outings versus conference foes. On the flipside, you have a Georgia Tech team that has struggled this season and who are now 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games. I see a comfortable win for the Tar Heels here.

College Football Week 6 Betting Trends

  • Tar Heels are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games
  • Tar Heels are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against Georgia Tech
  • Yellow Jackets are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games
  • Yellow Jackets are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games played in October

Georgia Bulldogs (-25 ½) at Tennessee Volunteers

We spoke at the top of this piece about the old familiar faces looking like the National Championship favorites this season. The Georgia Bulldogs are one of the teams that fall into that category, as they have looked ridiculously good this year.

They are coming off a big win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, which was followed by a bye week. They should be rested and ready to go against a Tennessee Volunteers team that has looked pretty poor this season.

Look for Georgia to gash the Vols on the run and cover the spread.

College Football Week 6 Betting Trends

  • Yellow Jackets are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against Tennessee
  • Yellow Jackets are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against an opponent in the Southeast conference
  • Volunteers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games
  • Volunteers are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games at home

Boise State Broncos (-23 ½) at UNLV Rebels in College Football Week 6

The Boise State Broncos have been consistently good for as long as we can all remember, and they are off to a great start again this season, starting out with a perfect 4-0 record.

This is a team that has now won 11 of their last 12 games, but it is their record against the spread that is the important factor here.

They have gone 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games, while also going 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games played in Week 6. UNLV has actually covered in 3 of their last 4 meetings with the Broncos, but I think they come up short here.

Previous Betting News

It’s a little hard to believe, but this coming Saturday will essentially mark the midway point of the college football season for many teams. The top 4 NCAAF betting favorites are mostly unchanged, with the teams that started there staying there, albeit with a couple of minor position changes. Two of them survived close calls last weekend and all 4 still have some huge games to come before they can even start to think about making a postseason appearance.

There are some big games on the schedule this coming Saturday and we are going to try and get to as many picks as possible. We have some ATS picks here, but we will also have SU and O/U picks, as well as some parlay tickets in other articles, so look out for those.

NCAA Football Week 6 ATS Picks

Utah State Aggies (+2 ½) vs BYU Cougars

After a stunning win over Wisconsin, there were a lot of people jumping on the BYU bandwagon, as that victory got them into the Top 25. Another win over a lesser opponent followed, but the Cougars were brought back to earth last week with a lopsided loss against the Washington Huskies.

They have another tough one this weekend, with the 3-1 Utah State Aggies coming in. They pushed Michigan State hard win Week 1 and followed that up with 3 straight wins, racking up 155 points in the process. Perhaps more importantly, they are 4-0 ATS this season and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 versus BYU.

Latest NCAA Football Week 6 Betting Trends

  • Utah State is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games
  • Utah State is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games when playing Brigham Young
  • Brigham Young is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games

Kansas Jayhawks vs West Virginia Mountaineers (-28 ½)

Over the past few seasons, the West Virginia Mountaineers have been knocking on the door of the playoffs, but have always found a way to lose, usually due to defensive deficiencies. This is one of the best offensive teams in the league, with the Grier/Sills combination a tough one to stop.

They have shored up defensively this season, although they did give up 34 to Texas Tech last week in the win. That said, the Mountaineers are 4-0 ATS this season and will be going against a struggling Kansas team who are at 2-3 SU and ATS. Kansas has covered 4 of the last 5 versus WV, but I don’t see them doing it here.

Latest NCAA Football Week 6 Betting Trends

  • Kansas is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Kansas is 6-16 ATS in its last 22 games on the road
  • West Virginia is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games
  • West Virginia is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games when playing Kansas

Syracuse Orange (-4 ½) vs Pittsburgh Panthers

Syracuse took their first loss of the season last week, but there was certainly no shame in losing to Clemson in a game that the Orange could very easily have won. That one ended 27-23 in favor of the Tigers, but it showed us that this Syracuse team can hang with anyone on any given week.

They will be on the road this weekend to face a Pitt team that has been a little up and down this season, going 2-3 SU and ATS. The Orange are 4-1 ATS this season, and while they have struggled to get any joy on recent trips to Pittsburgh, I think they will change that this weekend.

Latest NCAA Football Week 6 Betting Trends

  • Syracuse is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games
  • Syracuse is 2-6-1 ATS in its last 9 games when playing Pittsburgh
  • Pittsburgh is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games at home

Clemson Tigers vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons (+17)

Of the teams sitting in the top 4 right now, it is the Clemson Tigers who have been the least convincing. Throw in some QB drama and you have a team that is perhaps not the best bet at the moment. Kelly Bryant transferred out after losing the starting job to Trevor Lawrence, who then got carted off in his first start last week against Syracuse.

We are not sure who will be under center for the Tigers this week, which has me leaning towards the Demon Deacons as a 17-point underdog, even though they are just 1-4 ATS this season.

Previous Betting News

With the 2017 NCAAF season really starting to heat up now as we move further into conference play, there’s no time like the present for another round of expert picks, this time based on the College Football Week 6 Odds and the performance of certain very interesting teams.

Thanks to our updated NCAAF betting lines and the trio of selections that you’re about to get, you’re going to have a great opportunity to either boost the annual college football betting bankroll or make a move towards getting back in the black if you’ve struggled out of the gate. Okay, with that said, let’s rock and roll by starting with a Thursday night matchup feature none other than 2016 Heisman trophy winner, Lamar Jackson.

College Football Week 6 Odds & ATS Betting Picks

Louisville (4-1) at NC State (4-1)

  • When: Thursday, October 5, 2017, 8:00 PM ET
  • Where: Carter-Finley Stadium, Raleigh, North Carolina
  • TV: ESPN
  • College Football Week 6 Odds: Louisville -2.5

Analysis

The 17th-ranked Louisville pounded the snot out of Murray State in their convincing 55-10 rout on Saturday as Lamar Jackson passed for 349 yards and three touchdowns while adding 100 rushing yards and an additional touchdown.

North Carolina State took care of business in their 33-25 win over on Saturday as quarterback Ryan Finley passed for 186 yards and one score while running back Nyheim Hines rushed for 115 yards and another touchdown. Backup running back Jaylen Samuels added 74 yards and another score and NC State limited the Orange to just 59 rushing yards.

With both of these ACC rivals allowing approximately 24.0 points per game defensively, No. 17 Louisville is the simple pick to win and cover as slight road favorites mostly because they have the gifted Jackson and the far more explosive offense.

Louisville has won three straight in this series including last season’s emphatic 54-13 win as a 19-point home favorite. The Cardinals also have the better head coach in this contest and have gone a blistering 21-7 in their L/28 road games against a team with a winning record. NC State cashed in for me two weeks ago as a double-digit road dog against Florida State, but they’re going to find stopping Lamar Jackson next to impossible as they fall at home and fail to cover the spread.

Pick: Louisville -2.5

California (3-2) at Washington (5-0)

  • When: Saturday, October 7, 2017, 12:00 PM ET
  • Where: Husky Stadium, Seattle, Washington
  • TV: ESPN
  • College Football Week 6 Odds: Washington -27

Analysis

Cal never had a chance in their humbling 45-24 Week 5 loss against now, unranked Oregon this past Saturday. While quarterback Ross Bowers was solid in completing 23 of 41 passes for 255 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, the Golden Bears gave up a whopping 328 rushing yards and five rushing scores in the loss to the Ducks while getting held to a jaw-dropping eight rushing yards on 29 team carries.

On the flip side of the coin, No. 6 Washington is making my preseason pick of them both, winning the Pac-12 and reaching the four-team playoff look really good right now. The Huskies smacked Oregon State senseless by scoring 35 second-half points en route to a commanding 42-7 win on Saturday as quarterback Josh Browning threw for 293 yards and three touchdowns while running back Myles Gaskin added 113 rushing yards and one score.

While this nearly four-touchdown spread looks daunting, I’m going on record to say that I like the Washington Huskies to get both, the SU win and narrow ATS cover, mostly because they’re the better team in all three phases and have a legitimate pair of Heisman Trophy candidates.

Cal is just 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four road games against a team with a winning home record. Washington has gone 4-0 ATS in their last four conference games and 4-1 ATS in their L/5 games against a team with a winning record. Championship-hopeful Washington wins and narrowly covers!

Pick: Washington -27

Washington State (5-0) at Oregon (4-1)

  • When: Saturday, October 7, 2017, 12:00 PM ET
  • Where: Autzen Stadium, Eugene, Oregon
  • College Football Week 6 Odds: Washington State -2.5

Analysis

I told you last week to back Washington State to beat USC and cover the spread and that’s just what the now, 11th-ranked Cougars did. Washington State took out the previously fifth-ranked Trojans a 30-27 loss as quarterback Luke Falk passed for 340 yards with two touchdowns and one pick while running back Jamal Morrow rushed for 91 yards and one score on just six carries to stun the Trojans and cash in as a 5-point home underdog.

Oregon bounced back from its heartbreaking 37-35 loss at Arizona State in Week 4 to pound Cal unmercifully in its 45-24 Week 5 win this past Saturday while covering the spread as a 17-point home favorite. Quarterback Justin Herbert had a modest game by completing 7 of 8 passes for 86 yards and one touchdown, but the Ducks didn’t need much passing as running back Kani Benoit rushed for 138 yards and two scores on 18 carries and fellow back Tony Brooks-James added 76 rushing yards and one touchdown on 16 carries. Overall, the Ducks rushed for 328 yards while limiting Cal to a mind-boggling eight rushing yards on 29 carries.

For this Week 6 Pac-12 matchup, I’m going to advise you to back the Washington State Cougars to record their third consecutive victory over Oregon and second straight in Eugene after smacking the Ducks around in their 51-33 blowout win last season.

The Cougars have the better starting quarterback in this matchup and will get the narrow road win and ATS cover because of it – although I will say this matchup has the look of a high-scoring thriller just waiting to happen.

Pick: Washington State -2.5

Top College Football Week 6 ATS Betting Picks

Previous Betting News

Week 6 of the college football season has a lot to live up to following an epic Week 5 that was punctuated by Tennessee’s Hail Mary victory over Georgia to take control of the SEC East Division. Here are three picks I like this week in online college football betting.

Top College Football Week 6 ATS Betting Picks

Georgia Southern at Arkansas State (+7)

This is a Wednesday ESPN2 game this week, from the Sun Belt Conference. It’s the first time these schools have met since the 1986 national championship game in Division I-AA. With the win, Georgia Southern became the first school to ever win back-to- back national championships in Division I-AA. Georgia Southern (3-1) comes off a 49c-31 loss at Western Michigan on Sept. 24. Favian Upshaw threw for 103 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles, while Kevin Ellison ran for 46 yards and threw for 65 and a touchdown. The Eagles have now lost six straight non-conference road games dating back to the Florida win in 2013. GS has played 18 Sun Belt games as it plays its third season in the conference. The Eagles are 16-2 in conference games, although the 2014 win over ULM was vacated due to NCAA violations. ASU (0-4) comes off a 28-23 loss to Central Arkansas on Sept. 24, UCA’s first-ever win over an FBS program. Justice Hansen threw for 424 yards and three scores in the loss. Blake Mack had 142 yards receiving for Arkansas State. The Red Wolves finished with a 469-382 edge in total offense, but Central Arkansas limited A-State to 45 yards rushing on 34 attempts. UCA also scored 15 points off A-State turnovers. Take Georgia Southern here.

Temple at Memphis (-10)

This American Athletic Conference matchup is the Thursday night ESPN game of the week. Temple (3-2, 1-0) comes off a 45-20 win over SMU. Sophomore Ryquell Armstead broke up the left sideline 37 yards to score the game’s final TD and gained 159 of the Owls’ 244 yards rushing. Armstead had gained 154 yards in all of September. The critical victory marks the first in the Owls’ defense of last season’s Eastern Division title. Temple scored 21 points in the first quarter and 35 points in the first half. It was the first time that Temple scored 30-or- more point points in a half in consecutive weeks since 2009 when they did so against Akron and Kent State. Temple has scored 40+ points in back-to-back games for the first time since the first two games of 2011 (Villanova and Akron). It marks the first time they have done that against FBS opponents since 2009 (Kent State and Akron). Memphis (3-1, 0-0) comes off a 48-28 loss to Ole Miss. Quarterback Riley Ferguson was 30-of- 46 passing for 343 yards and three interceptions. His completions (30; T11th), attempts (46; T13th) and yards (343; T20th) all are in the top-20 for a game in program history. Ferguson also ran for two scores, the first multiple-rushing touchdown game of his career. Anthony Miller was Ferguson’s favorite target. Miller hauled in 10 passes for 132 yards. Take Memphis here.

Texas vs. No. 20 Oklahoma (-10.5)

The annual Red River Rivalry game is in Dallas as usual and it could be the final game as Texas coach Charlie Strong if the Horns are crushed. Following Saturday’s blowout loss to Oklahoma State, Strong demoted defensive coordinator Vance Bedford from defensive coordinator, with Strong taking over that role. Texas ranks last in the Big 12 in scoring defense at 38.3 points per game after giving up more than 47 points in three of its first four games. Texas (2-2) installed four new starters against the Cowboys but gave up 555 total yards, including 392 passing yards in the 49-31 loss. Oklahoma (2-2) won at TCU 52-45 on Saturday. OU junior quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 23 of 30 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns. However, he also lost two more fumbles, which gives him three already this season. On the plus side, Mayfield ran for two touchdowns. A loss to the Horned Frogs would have had saddled the Sooners with their worst season start since going 0-4 under coach John Blake in 1996. Texas did upset OU last year but hasn’t won back-to- back games in the series since 2008- 09 and won’t win here, either. Give the points in online college football betting.
