2023 Hero World Challenge | 23rd edition of the Hero World Challenge golf tournament
Thursday, November 30th – Monday, December 3rd, 2023
Albany Golf Club, Nassau, The Bahamas

What you Need to Know before Hero World Challenge Starts

Tournament play begins on Thursday, November 30th and concludes on Sunday, December 3rd. The four-day charity event will have no cut with the winner earning $1 million dollars.

Victor Hovland has taken home the title the last two seasons, looking to become the first golfer to win the tournament three years in a row. Hovland shot a four-day total of 272 (16-under) in 2022, defeating Scottie Scheffler by two shots. Scheffler has been runner-up the last two years.

Although on the PGA Tour schedule, the Hero World Challenge is considered an unofficial money event by the PGA Tour. However, since 2009 the tournament has offered Official World Golf Rankings points to the competitors.

Albany Golf Course

Albany Golf Course will host the Hero World Challenge for the eighth time. The track features a rare five par 5s and five par 3s on the scorecard.

The Ernie Els-designed links style layout showcases large dunes and numerous water features that will challenge the competitors.

Since finding a home at Albany, the averaging winning score of the tournament has sat near 19-under. Bubba Watson holds the scoring record at this location, firing a 25-under (262 total) in 2015, the first year the tournament was played at Albany.

Hero World Challenge Field

While there are just 20 players in the field this week, the laid-back event brings many of the world’s best golfers together. World no. 1 Scottie Scheffler will be there, aiming to break through with a victory after a pair of runner-ups.

Brian Harman and Wyndham Clark will make their Hero World Challenge debuts. Both golfers became first-time major winners this year and represented the United States in the Ryder Cup this fall.

Joining Woods in a return to action after an extended injury absence is Will Zalatoris. Zalatoris, like Tiger, hasn’t played competitively since the Masters after missing an extended period of time with a back injury.

Other notables in the field this week include Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Tony Finau, and Collin Morikawa.

Hero World Challenge Betting Favorites

Hovland (+400) enters as the pre-tournament favorite as the 26-year old looks to make it three in a row. Right behind Hovland is Scheffler (+530) who looks to return to the winner’s circle for the third time this season.

Max Homa (+740) looks to continue his recent run of strong finishes. Homa has finished inside the top 10 in five-straight PGA Tour events dating back to the Open Championship.

Morikawa (+760) and Thomas (+1400) cap the top five betting favorites. Morikawa captured the ZOZO Championship during the fall swing, his first victory of 2023, while Thomas hopes his strong finish at the Wyndham Championship (T12) and Fortinet Championship (5) carries over this week.

Updated 2023 Hero World Challenge Odds: Favorites, Smart Pick, Long Shot Starting Week 12 | MyBookie Week 12 NFL Regular Season Preview

The final event of the FedExCup Fall series concluded last week with the RSM Classic, but there is still golf to be played before the conclusion of the 2023 calendar year.

The four-day, no cut event begins on Thursday, November 30th and concludes on Sunday, December 3rd.

It’s time to have a closer look at the upcoming Hero World Challenge tournament so you can bet against the PGA Tour lines.

2023 Hero World Challenge | 23rd edition of the Hero World Challenge golf tournament
Thursday, November 30th – Monday, December 3rd, 2023
Albany Golf Club, Nassau, The Bahamas

2023 Hero World Challenge

Played at the Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas, this marks the 24th edition of the event. The first 13 years played at Sherwood Country Club in California.

The Hero World Challenge welcomes the best golfers in the world to compete against a reduced field of 20 golfers. The event is hosted by Tiger Woods and is a benefit event for the Tiger Woods Foundation.

While the event is part of the PGA Tour schedule, the tournament is not seen as an official event so no FedEx Cup points or official money is awarded to the participants. Beginning in 2009, Official World Golf Rankings points were given to the players.

Viktor Hovland returns to the island hoping to make it three in a row. The 26-year old has won the Hero World Challenge in back to back years, both times over runner-up Scottie Scheffler. Last year the Norwegian was able to hang on to a one-shot victory over Scheffler, firing a four-day score of 16-under (272 total).

The Albany Golf Course

Designed by golf great Ernie Els, this resort course is its own slice of paradise. The par-72 layout measures approximately 7,415 yards in length. The scorecard has five par 5s and five par 3s with the remaining eight holes played as par 4s.

Els incorporated a combination of links and desert landscapes to challenge the players. Water hazards are strategically placed throughout the course and come into play at various points in the round.

History tells us that players will need to shoot around 18-under if they want to contend for the title.

Hero World Challenge: Betting the 2023 Field

Many of the top golfers in the world will be in action at Albany but the announcement last week that tournament host Tiger Woods will be back in action for the first time since the Masters is the biggest headliner. Woods withdrew in the third round at Augusta and underwent ankle surgery shortly after.

Scheffler, the no. 1 ranked player in the world, tees it up looking to break through his string of consecutive runner ups with a win.

U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark and Open winner Brian Harman make their Hero World Challenge debuts. Both golfers represented the United States in the 2023 Ryder Cup earlier this fall.

Max Homa and Matt Fitzpatrick round out the list of names in the field ranked inside the top 10 in the world. Another pair of Ryder Cuppers, both look to win the tournament for the first time.

Other notable names in the field include Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Tony Finau, and Will Zalatoris. Zalatoris, like Woods, will also be back in action for the first time since the Masters. Fowler (2017) and Spieth (2014) are past winners of the tournament.

2022 Golf Betting Preview for the Hero World Challenge Tournament

Tiger Woods hosts the end-of-year event on the PGA Tour in the Hero World Challenge at the Albany Resort in New Providence, Bahamas. The limited-field event will feature 20 of the best golfers in the world competing. Play begins on Thursday, December 1st, and ends on Sunday, December 4th.

Viktor Hovland returns to the island to defend his title after topping Scottie Scheffler by one shot with a Sunday round of 66 (6-under). Hovland was the third straight European player to win the tournament.

The prize purse is $3.5 million dollars with the winner earning $1 million. While there are no FedEx Cup points for this event, players in the field will earn World-ranking points. Without further ado, it’s time to have a closer look at the upcoming Hero World Challenge tournament so you can bet against the PGA Tour Odds.

The Field

The field is small but mighty this week, with many of the top names taking part in the charity event hosted by one of the best golfers of all time. Woods was planning to return to action this week, but had to withdraw early in the week with a foot injury.

The field includes Hovland, the defending champion, along with six newcomers to the event. Highlighting the group of newcomers is PGA Rookie of the Year Cameron Young and fan-favorite Tom Kim.

Three of the four 2022 major winners are teeing it up at Albany. Last season’s runner-up and Masters champion Scottie Scheffler is joined by PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas and U.S. Open victor Matthew Fitzpatrick.

The Course

The course at the Albany resort was designed by four-time major winner Ernie Els. The par-72 track features five par 5s and five par 3s on the scorecard. Each of the last five winners of the event have finished exactly 18-under par.

The property is a typical resort design with wide fairways, but missing the short grass will give players troubles. The fairways are lined with windswept dunes, and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout the layout.

Betting Odds

Jon Rahm (+510) is the pre-tournament betting favorite. Rahm won here in his debut in 2018 and followed it up with a runner-up finish in 2019. Scheffler, last year’s runner-up and four-time winner on Tour this season, is next on the board at +770.

Tony Finau picked up his fifth PGA Tour win at the Cadence Bank Houston Open in November and carries that momentum into the Bahamas with the third-best odds to win at +910. Olympic gold medal recipient Xander Schauffle trails closely behind Finau with odds of +990.

Rounding out the top five is one of Woods’ good friends in Justin Thomas, with a value play at +1250. Thomas has teed it up just once since the Presidents Cup, finishing T40 in South Carolina at the CJ CUP.

Peering further down the list, some notable odds include last year’s winner Hovland at +1600. Hovland was on a tear this time last year, but it ended up being a quiet year for the 25-year-old Norwegian. Past winner Jordan Spieth is a great pick with odds of +2100 entering the event.
