Writer’s NFL Quarterback Picks for the Week 17 Matchups

Kansas City – Patrick Mahomes at Pittsburgh – Russell Wilson

Wednesday, December 25th, 2024

Russell Wilson should get his best wide receiver back but it may not help much.

The KC defense is playing well enough to stop the Russ to George Pickens connection.

Still, this feels like a bit of a trap game for an injured Patrick Mahomes.

Unlike the Texans, Pittsburgh has a great defense and the Chiefs have had the luxury of playing against mediocre squads for the most part in the past month.

Wilson outplays Magic Mahomes by a hair.

NFL Week 17 QB Pick: Russell Wilson

Arizona – Kyler Murray at L.A. Rams – Matthew Stafford

Saturday, December 28th, 2024

Murray versus Stafford should be one of the more exciting QB matchups in NFL Week 17.

No weather issues at SoFi and both teams are fighting for a playoff spot.

No doubt, Kyler is going to show up.

But Staff has the much better weapons overall and the Rams QB has been exceptional.

Not counting the NFL Week 16 matchup versus the Jets, Staff has thrown 10 TDs to 0 picks in his last 5 games.

Wow.

NFL Week 17 QB Pick: Matthew Stafford

NY Jets – Aaron Rodgers at Buffalo – Josh Allen

Sunday, December 29th, 2024

On paper, this should be a close matchup.

It will be interesting to see two future hall of fame quarterbacks duel but we shouldn’t expect this one to be close.

Rodgers is playing better than he has all season.

Still, throwing touchdowns against the Jaguars and then dominating Buffalo on the road are two different things.

Allen is unstoppable and wether the Bills have a shot to secure the top seed in the AFC Playoffs or not won’t matter.

Bills roll ATS and Allen wins the QB duel.

NFL Week 17 QB Pick: Josh Allen

Green Bay – Jordan Love at Minnesota – Sam Darnold

Sunday, December 29th, 2024

Here’s another situation where the quarterback with the better receivers win the duel.

Sam Darnold has much better receivers overall than Jordan Love.

Not only that but Darnold and the Vikings are rolling.

They head into this game off a nice win over the Seahawks in Seattle.

NFL Week 17 QB Pick: Sam Darnold

Atlanta – Michael Penix Jr. at Washington – Jayden Daniels

Sunday, December 29th, 2024

Michael Penix Jr. played great in his first game.

The interception he threw was a perfect ball to Kyle Pitts that the tight end couldn’t secure.

The Falcons looked good in all phases.

But beating the Giants at home and then taking down the Washington Commanders on the road are two entirely different things.

Jayden Daniels should post the much better stats in this.

NFL Week 17 QB Pick: Jayden Daniels

Detroit – Jared Goff at San Francisco– Brock Purdy

Monday, December 30, 2024

If both teams were full strength, Goff and Purdy would duel big time in this one.

On Monday, though, Goff has both of his star receivers as well as Jahmyr Gibbs.

Brock Purdy is down to Greg Kittle and Deebo Samuel.

Purdy is going to have a lot of trouble keeping with a Detroit squad averaging over 30 points per game.

Lions roll and Goff posts the better stats.

NFL Week 17 QB Pick: Jared Goff

How to Bet on NFL Quarterbacks?

Betting on NFL quarterbacks is an exciting way to engage with the game, especially when it comes to high-profile matchups in key moments like NFL Week 17. To make the most of your NFL betting experience, you’ll want to consider several factors, such as the quarterback’s recent performance, their matchup against the opposing defense, and how crucial the game is for playoff positioning.

One of the most popular types of bets involving quarterbacks is the moneyline, which lets you pick which quarterback-led team will win the game. Another popular option is the over/under bet, where you can wager on whether a quarterback will throw for more or less than a specific yardage total. You can also bet on individual player performances, like passing touchdowns or total passing yards, which are often listed in the NFL odds as “props” for each quarterback.

If you’re serious about betting on NFL quarterbacks, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on odds and lines leading up to each game, as they can change based on injuries, weather conditions, and other factors. Make sure to check the NFL News section regularly to stay updated on the latest trends, player performances, and injury reports, which can help you make more informed bets.

NFL QBs Power Rankings Expert Analysis for Week 17

Previous Betting News

With the final week of the 2020 NFL regular season almost here, it’s time to take one final look at the league’s quarterback power rankings heading into Week 17! While this week’s like features some familiar names at the top, a few surprise signal-callers make this week’s list with two of those unfamiliar names being among the league’s top five this week. Now, let’s find out which signal-callers are looking good heading into the final week of action so you can keep making your bets against their NFL odds.

QBs Power Rankings Heading Into Week 17 | NFL Betting

No. 10 Justin Herbert – LA Chargers

While LA’s star rookie didn’t throw for 300 yards or toss multiple TD passes in the Chargers’ 19-16 home win over Denver, the former Oregon star did pass for 253 yards with one TD pass and no picks while setting a new NFL record for touchdown passes by a rookie (28). This dude has a future so bright, I need sunglasses!

No. 9 Mitch Trubisky

While Trubisky had a solid 265 passing yards with two TD tosses and one interception, Chicago’s much-maligned signal-caller has led the Bears to three straight wins to keep their playoff hopes alive heading into their Week 17 home date against Green Bay!

No. 8 Patrick Mahomes

Mahomes had a modest 278 passing yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Still, the game’s best quarterback came alive in the second half to lead Kansas City to a hard-fought 17-14 home win over Atlanta while helping the Chiefs clinch the top seed in the AFC playoffs.

No. 7 Deshaun Watson

It’s a damned shame that Deshaun Watson has no help, but it’s incredible to see the former Clemson star having an MVP caliber campaign despite a lack of talent around him. Watson passed for 324 yards with three TD passes and no interceptions – in Houston’s 37-31 home loss against Cincinnati. Watson ranks second in passing yards (4,458) and ninth in TD passes (30).

No. 6 Ben Roethlisberger

Big Ben passed for 342 yards with three TD passes and no interceptions to lead Pittsburgh to a much-needed 28-24 comeback win over Indianapolis on Sunday. Roethlisberger ranks a stellar sixth in TD passes (33).

No. 5 Brandon Allen

Cincinnati’s veteran backup had the best game of his career by passing for a stunning 371 yards with two TD passes and no interceptions to lead the Bengals to a thrilling 37-31 road win over Houston on Sunday.

No. 4 Andy Dalton

Dalton had the most passing yards of any quarterback in Week 16 (377) while throwing a pair of touchdown passes and one interception in Dallas’ convincing 37-17 smackdown of Philadelphia on Sunday.

No. 3 Aaron Rodgers

Green Bay’s longtime franchise superstar passed for a modest 231 yards, but managed to throw four TD passes and one pick in the Packers’ emphatic 40-14 smackdown of Tennessee on Sunday night.

No. 2 Tom Brady

Brady had his best game of the season by passing for 348 yards with four TD passes and no interceptions in Tampa Bays’ 47-7 blowout win over the pitiful Lions. Brady ranks fifth in passing yards (4,234) fourth in TD passes (36) and ninth in quarterback rating (71.9).

No.1 Josh Allen

Buffalo’s still-blossoming third-year franchise signal-caller torched New England for 320 passing yards with four TD passes and no picks in Buffalo’s jaw-dropping 38-9 rout of New England on Monday night to get the top spot in the quarterback power rankings. For the season, Allen ranks third in passing yards, (4,320), fifth in touchdown passes (34) and third in quarterback rating (81.6).
