Copa America Group D: Betting Lines & Predictions for Brazil vs Colombia, Costa Rica vs Paraguay

Games For Tuesday: We are close to the start of the Copa America quarterfinals, but before we know all the fixtures, we still have a couple of games that need to be played.

Once those are in the books, we will break down the final 8 and make some betting predictions for the upcoming games.

My Analysis

We will get to the final group stage games in a moment, but before we do, it is worth recapping the group stage outcome to this point, with the biggest surprise being that Mexico and the United States are both out of the tournament.

Defending champions Argentina is through, as are Ecuador, Venezuela, Canada, Panama, and Uruguay.

Let’s look at the Tuesday games to see if we can figure out which two teams will be joining that group.

Brazil -114 vs Colombia +320

This is the game that will decide which team lands on top of the Group D standings.

Colombia has the edge at the moment, but they are going to have a tough time holding off a Brazil team buzzing after a big win in their previous game. It was a disappointing start to the tournament for Brazil, who opened with a 0-0 draw against Costa Rica.

It was a game they were expected to win comfortably, so the pressure was very much on for Game 2.

The Brazilians showed their class in that one, trouncing Paraguay 4-1. Despite that win, there are still some concerns about this squad, but a win here might well ease some of that.

If you are looking for a dark horse team to go on and win this tournament, you might want to take a look at Colombia. Coach Nestor Lorenzo has this team humming along nicely, and they are now unbeaten in 25 games.

In their last 4 games, they have been particularly hot, outscoring their opponents 13-2. That includes a 2-1 win over Paraguay and a 3-0 win over Costa Rica in this tournament.

Brazil has a slight edge in their last 5 meetings with Colombia, going 2-1-2. A draw suits both teams here, so I think that’s what we might see.

Copa America Pick: Brazil 2-2 Colombia
Draw: +246 // Total O/U: 2.5

Costa Rica +310 vs Paraguay -109

Things look pretty bleak for both of these teams in terms of moving on to the next round, although Costa Rica does still have an outside shot.

They picked up a point in a surprising 0-0 draw with Brazil in their opening game, but their 3-0 loss to Colombia in their second game makes things a good deal trickier.

Costa Rica would need to win this one by a wide margin and hope that Colombia thumps Brazil in the other game, such is the goal difference between them and the Brazilians.

Paraguay has nothing left to play for after losing their first two games in the group stage, but that does not mean that they are simply going to roll over and play dead.

The big question that they have, as do Costa Rica, is where the goals are going to come from, as neither of these two teams has scored in this tournament.

Costa Rica is going to need to come out and have a go in hopes of somehow turning over the current goal difference deficit, so this might be a fun one to watch.

Copa America Pick: Costa Rica 1-1 Paraguay
Draw: +238 // Total O/U: 2.5
