Copa America 2024, Key facts About the World’s Oldest Soccer Tournament
One more edition of the CONMEBOL Tournament has come to an end, with Argentina being the best team of the American continent and waiting to play the Finalissima match in 2025, where it will face Spain, the champion of the EURO 2024.
Where is the 2028 Copa America? The venue is not yet clear, but it is known that Ecuador is fighting very hard to obtain the venue..
Copa America 2024 is attractive to bet on because it has brought together the strongest teams in CONCACAF to participate in Edition #48 to be held in the United States from June 20 to July 14, increasing the number of teams from 10 to 16 and increasing the chances for bettors to make a profit.
The South American tournament will have a new year to be played instead of 2023 (as originally planned), because CONMEBOL requested FIFA to change the calendar in order to match the tournament with the Euro Cup.

Copa America History
The Copa América is the oldest national team soccer competition in the world. It was first played in a trial edition in 1910, but had its first official edition between July 2 and 17, 1916, as part of the commemorations of the centenary of Argentina’s independence. In addition to the host country, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil participated.
From a historical point of view, the lack of continuity of the competition is evident, marked by several irregularities and some large gaps between tournaments. Between 1929 and 1935, due to the antagonism between the main soccer nation of the continent, Argentina and Uruguay, which arose after the 1930 World Cup final, no competition was played.
From its first edition until 1967, the tournament was called Campeonato Sudamericano de Selecciones. In the first edition, Uruguay was proclaimed champion, after a scoreless draw with Argentina in the final played at the Racing Club de Avellaneda stadium.
1975 Change Name
In its 30th edition, the tournament was officially renamed Copa América. With the change of name, there were also changes in the competition system. The points system was replaced by a format similar to that of the FIFA World Cup: a qualifying phase, with the teams divided into groups, followed by knockout rounds.
From 1975 to 1987, the tournament included nine teams in a three-group structure. In 1991, the ten CONMEBOL members were included in a two-group structure.
Guest Teams
In 1993, the tournament was expanded to twelve teams and since then other nations have been invited to complete the 12-team structure: United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Japan, Panama, Japan, Qatar, China, Australia and Spain have participated in the Copa América.
However, the invited teams have never won an edition of the tournament. In 2016, the competition was held for the first time outside South America with the United States as host. This coincided with the 100th anniversary of the Copa America. Ehe Centenario champion was Argentina in 2021.
