The course has been around since 1975, and plays nearly 7,600 yards. The course record for a tournament is held by Cameron Smith in 2022, who went with a 258.

Last season, Jon Rahm came away as the winner, with Collin Morikawa finishing second. The winning share for the 2024 Sentry is $3.6M.

2024 Tournament of Champions | 71st edition of the Tournament of Champions golf tournament
Thursday, November 30th – Monday, December 3rd, 2023
Kapalua Resort, Kapalua, Hawaii

Scottie Scheffeler +500

Scottie won the Hero World Challenge by three strokes after firing a 68 in his final round. We know how good Scheffeler can be when he is at the top of his game. While it may be early, he still has the most talent in the field. The 27 year old from Dallas has been a pro since 2018 and seems to be coming into his own even more. There is a reason he is the world’s #1 starting 2024.

Viktor Hovland +900

Hovland is coming off a 10th place finish at the Hero World Challenge. Outside of the PGA Tour,  he played the DP World Tour in November, and came away as the runner up. A season ago, Hovland played in 49 events, which is one of the most in all of the PGA Tour. The 26 year old from Norway was the Tour Champion in August, which netted him $18M. That came after the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields.

Patrick Cantlay +1200

Cantlay is the latest to discuss not leaving the PGA Tour for LIV Golf. The 31 year old from Long Beach has now been on the tour for 10 seasons. A season ago, Cantlay finished 5th at the Tour Championship, which brought him $3M in winnings. Cantlay is one of the most consistent golfers in the game, so he is always going to be around the top of the leaderboard.

Max Homa +1200

Homa finished 13th in the Hero World Challenge. Before that, Homa won the Nedbank Golf Challenge in early November. The 33 year old comes into the season ranked 7th. He has been a professional since 2013 and continues to find his groove. Homa finished with a Top 10 in the FedEx, BMW and Tour Championship. Those three brough him a combined $2.2M just for the month of August.

Collin Morikawa +1200

After winning the ZOZO Championship in October, he went to the Hero World Challenge and finished 7th place. We love the way Morikawa fits this course.  He starts the season 13th in the rankings after injuries plagued him a bit last season. If healthy, this is a guy to look out for in 2024. Despite the struggles, he still came away with a T6 at the Tour Championship in 2023.

Others in Consideration:

  • Xander Schauffele +1400

  • Ludvig Aberg +1400

  • Jordan Spieth +2000

  • Matt Fitzpatrick +2200

  • Tyrell Hatton +2500

  • Tommy Fleetwood +2500

  • Tom Kim +2500

Tennis Betting Opportunities and Lines for the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions

The PGA Tour’s new season actually began last year, but with the calendar now flipping over, we are heading into bigger and better tournaments where the best players in the game come to play. As is the case with these early season events, we are off to tropical climes, with the Sentry Tournament of Champions set to be held in Kapalua, Hawaii. There are some big names set to take part, with the action starting on Jan. 5 and running through to the 8th. You can understand why there are so many willing to take the trip when you consider that the prize pot is sitting at $15 million. Let’s take a closer look at the current PGA Tour Odds for the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Current Odds

Jon Rahm (+660)

During his time with the PGA Tour, Rahm has established himself as one of the most consistent golfers out there. His consistency does not always translate to wins, although he does have 7 on the tour, but he is a great bet if you are looking for a player to land in the top 5. A prime example of that can be seen in his lone tournament appearance this season, where he finished 4th. He has also been the runner-up at this event twice, including last year’s tournament. At these odds, I definitely think Rahm is worth taking a flyer on.

Scottie Scheffler (+900)

It is going to be a tough act to follow for Scheffler, who is coming off a career year. He had 4 wins on the tour last season, including his first major at The Masters, as well as a 2nd place finish at the US Open. He already has a couple of top 10 finishes in the early part of the season as he looks to round into shape for this one. It is going to be interesting to see if he can carry over that momentum from last season, and at these odds, he is another player definitely worth taking a look at before you wager.

Patrick Cantlay (+1025)

He may only have played in one event this season, but Cantlay is already showing that he means business in 2022-23. The event he played in was the Shriners Children’s Open, where he finished tied for 2nd, with his scoring average just a touch over 68. Yes, it’s just one tournament, but it was certainly a great way to shake off the rust and get back to business. He finished at -26 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions last year, which was still only good enough for 4th. A similar showing this time around might just be enough to win it all.

Xander Schauffele (+1025)

Ranked at #9 in the world, Schauffele comes into this event this event on the heels of a top 10 finish in the only other tournament he has played this season. He is coming off a career year, where he had 3 wins on the tour, and he will be looking to build on that and be even better this time around. Cantlay finished outside the top 10 at this tournament last season, but I think he will do better and might be a decent top 5 bet.

2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions Betting Preview Before the Event

After an exciting fall season, the PGA Tour is back in action with the first event of 2022 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. The tournament hosts an impressive field of winners from last year, featuring 38 of 39 victors from the previous year. Here’s our Golf Betting analysis for the rapidly approaching Sentry Tournament of Champions event so you can bet against the PGA Tour odds.

PGA Tour Betting | Sentry Tournament

Tournament play begins on Thursday, January 6th, and concludes on Sunday, January 9th. The location of the tournament is the first of two back-to-back events on the islands of Hawaii, with the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort hosting the TOUR’s winner-only event.

Last season due to the abbreviated schedule of 2020, the tournament expanded the field to also include the thirty players that made the 2020 Tour Championship. That allowed defending champion Harris English to claim his first victory in seven seasons and was his first of two victories in the previous year.

The purse for this no-cut event is $8.2 million with the winner earning $1.476 million. The victor also receives 500 FedEx Cup points and valuable OWGR points in the loaded field.

The Plantation Course at Kapalua

The Plantation Course is an expansive piece of property and one of two courses at Kapalua. The course features massive elevation changes, wide-open fairways, and picturesque ocean views.

Playing at approximately 7,600 yards, the course is the only track on the PGA Tour that plays as a par-73. The course was the first design by the duo of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, opening in 1992 and undergoing a major renovation in 2019.

Sentry Tournament of Champions Field

The only player eligible to play this week that won’t be in the field is Rory McIlroy. English will try and win become the first back-to-back champion since Geoff Ogilvy in 2009 and 2010.

Phil Mickelson returns to the island for the first time in 21 years having locked up a spot in the field with his historic victory at the PGA Championship. Xander Schauffele wasn’t a winner on Tour in 2021 but got the nod into the field as the gold medal winner from the Tokyo Olympics last summer. Schauffele is a previous winner here, having won in 2019.

Justin Thomas returns aiming for his third victory here after winning THE PLAYERS in March. Thomas won in 2016 and 2020 and finished in solo third last year. Other former winners in the field include Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed.

PGA pros that earned their first tournament appearance are Talor Gooch, Lucas Herbert, Erik Van Rooyan, K.H. Lee, Garrick Higgo, Seamus Power, Cameron Davis, and Joel Dahmen.

Sentry Tournament of Champions Betting Odds

Jon Rahm returns to action after missing the cut at the Fortinet Championship, and the No. 1 player in the world is the betting favorite at +750. Rahm looks to secure his seventh victory on Tour and kick off a season of high expectations for the Spaniard.

Right behind Rahm is the two-time winner Justin Thomas (+800). Thomas has had historical success on the course and finished with a solo third at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba in the fall.

Following the top two favorites is Collin Morikawa (+1000), one of the hottest golfers over the past two seasons. Morikawa picked up a pair of victories last year, including his second major at The Open Championship.

Other notables are Bryson DeChambeau, Xander Schauffele, and Viktor Hovland at +1200. Brooks Koepka (+3000), English (+3500), and Phil Mickelson (+13000) all provide some excellent value further down the list.

2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions Preview | PGA Tour Betting

The PGA Tour tees off to start the 2022 calendar year in Hawaii at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. The tournament is held on the island of Maui and is restricted to only players who won a tournament on tour the previous calendar year. Dating back to 1953, the tournament used to be the opening event for the season before the PGA introduced a wrap-around season that began in the fall. Here’s our Golf Betting analysis for the upcoming event so you can bet against the PGA Tour odds.

Overview

Harris English won the event last year, defeating Joaquin Niemann in a playoff to secure his second PGA Tour victory. English fired a 25-under for the tournament, six shots shy of Ernie Els’ tournament-best 31-under shot in 2003. Since the PGA season was cut short due to COVID, English was in the tournament due to his status in the top 30 for the Tour Championship.

The winner of the tournament receives $1.34 million of the $6.3 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points. There is no cut for the event due to the reduced number of participants in the field.

The tournament begins on Thursday, January 5th, and concludes on Sunday, January 9th. It is the first of two tournaments held in Hawaii over a two-week span.

Kapalua Resort – Plantation Course

The resort is in Kapalua, Hawaii on the island of Maui and features two golf courses, The Plantation and The Bay, on its property. The four-day tournament is held on the Plantation course, which opened in 1991, that plays as a par-73 and spans approximately 7,596 yards.

Plantation was the first course designed by the duo of Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore to open, and the two have gone on to become two of the most sought-after golf course architects in the sport. The pair teamed up again for an extensive renovation in 2019.

The course plays like a traditional links venue with wide fairways and large elevation changes. It is the only course on the tour that plays as a par-73 and offers players panoramic views of both ocean and mountains.

The Field

A total of 40 players have qualified for the tournament this season and a handful have committed to play the event as of early December. Many of the players eligible won’t miss this event given a guaranteed four days of golf, a payout, FedEx Cup points, and a week in Hawaii.

The players that have already committed to play in the event include Cam Davis (Rocket Mortgage Classic), Garrick Higgo (Palmetto Championship at Congaree), Lucas Herbert (Butterfield Bermuda Championship), K. H. Lee (AT&T Bryon Nelson), Seamus Power (Barbasol Championship), Erik Van Rooyen (Barracuda Championship), Abraham Ancer (WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational), Joel Dahmen (Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship), and Talor Gooch (RSM Classic).

A total of ten first-time winners have qualified for the event. Notable players that have qualified but have yet to commit to the tournament include Collin Morikawa (WGC-Workday Championship at Concession, the Open), Bryson DeChambeau (Arnold Palmer Invitational), Brooks Koepka (Waste Management Phoenix Open), Justin Thomas (THE PLAYERS), Jordan Spieth (Valero Texas Open), Hideki Matsuyama (The Masters), Rory McIlroy (Wells Fargo Championship), Phil Mickelson (PGA Championship), Jon Rahm (U.S. Open), Xander Schaffele (Olympic Gold), and Tony Finau (The Northern Trust).

Golf Betting Analysis – 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions

With the 2021 PGA Tour Sentry Tournament Champions event one round in, it’s time to take a look at what went down in the first round on Thursday and which players could find themselves in the winner circle once Sunday rolls around. Let’s jump right into action so you can get all set and place your bets against their Golf odds.

World No. 1 Dustin Johnson is the prohibitive favorite to win at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Hawaii while world No. 3 Justin Thomas is right behind. World No. 2 Jon Rahm, No. 6 Xander Schauffele and No. 5 Bryson DeChambeau round out the top five leaders on the odds list.

Johnson and Thomas have both won this event twice, and both had three victories during the 2020 season. Johnson also won the Masters and the FedEx Cup championship, while Thomas was atop the standings at the end of the regular season. Thomas won in a three-way playoff at Kapalua last year and claimed the 2017 title as well. Johnson won by eight strokes in 2018 and took the hardware in 2013 as well.

Odds to Win 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions

  • Dustin Johnson 6-1
  • Justin Thomas 13-2
  • Jon Rahm 15-2
  • Xander Schauffele 10-1

  • Hideki Matsuyama 18-1
  • Patrick Cantlay 18-1
  • Viktor Hovland 20-1
  • Webb Simpson 20-1

  • Abraham Ancer 40-1
  • Adam Scott 40-1
  • Scottie Scheffler 40-1
  • Cameron Smith 40-1
  • Cameron Champ 45-1
  • Sergio Garcia 60-1

Opening Round

Thomas, along with Harris English, sits atop the leaderboard at 8-under while a half-dozen players are two shots back including Sungjae Im, Patrick Reed and Sergio Garcia. Adam Scott and Patrick Cantlay are sitting at 5-under par while Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and DeChambeau are among a group of players sitting at 4-under. Half of the 42-man field shot in the 60s on the Plantation Course on Thursday. Now, let’s look at my top five players to win.

Justin Thomas

Thomas has won two of the last four Sentry titles and sits atop the leaderboard after one round. In five events this season, the 27-year-old from Kentucky has not finished worse than T12 in any event. Thomas finished fourth at the Masters and is trying to become the first back-to-back winner at Kapalua since Geoff Ogilvy in 2010. Right now, I’ve got Thomas doing just that. Boom!

Xander Schauffele

In four events this season, the world No. 6 has finished no worse than T17. The 27-year-old Schauffele ranks 69th in driving distance (303.7), 40th in eagles per home (96.0) and a stupendous sixth in birdie average (4.94) and is just off the lead heading into Friday.

Patrick Reed

The 30-year-old San Antonio native and world No. 11 has three finishes inside the top 13 in three events played this season. Reed finished T10 in the Masters in his last event and possesses the talent to beat anyone on the planet on any given day. Reed leads the PGA Tour in birdie average (5.42) and ranks 10th in scoring average (69.45).

Harris English

The 31-year-old Georgia native played the best golf of his career last season and looks like he’ll repeat his high level of play again in 2021. In seven events this season, English has recorded four Top 10 finishes including a fourth place finish at the U.S. Open, a T5 finish in the Mayakoba Classic and a first place finish with Matt Kuchar in the QBE Shootout last month. Harris ranks a stellar seventh in birdie average (4.82) and fifth in scoring average (69.14). English is tied for first place after one round and will undoubtedly contend for the win!

Collin Morikawa

In five events this season, the 23-year-old has been all over the map. The world No. 7 missed the cut at the U.S. Open and ensuing Shriners Open before finishing T12 in the CJ Cup. Morikawa then finished T50 in the Zozo Championship and T44 at the Masters. Still, this dude is supremely gifted and I suspect he wants to get his 2021 calendar year off to a good start. I like the sweet-swinging Californian to challenge for the outright win.
