AP Top 25 College Football Poll Week 9

The Georgia Bulldogs made a big move up the AP Poll, Texas didn’t lose many spots, and Oregon, Penn State, and Ohio State held their positions.

The Associated Press Poll heading into College Football Week 9 suggests the top conference in the nation is now the Big Ten after SEC teams dominated in the early weeks.

What happened in College Football Week 8 and which games along with college football odds should be on your radar for NCAAF Week 9? Check out an analysis of this week’s AP Poll along with predictions.

Georgia thumps Texas and Moves Up to Second in the Nation

The season’s most important matchup to date turned out to be not much of a matchup at all.

The Georgia Bulldogs marched into Austin and doubled up the then first ranked Texas Longhorns 30-15 in a stunning display of SEC power football.

Kirby Smart declared that the referees tried to steal it from the Dawgs.

He has a point but whether the refs called a bad game or not, Georgia showed their superiority.

Lest we forget, the Bulldogs are a play or two away from mounting a 21-point comeback win over the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Georgia could very well be undefeated at this point in the season.

No doubt, the Dawgs are the class of a struggling SEC.

For their efforts, Georgia moved to second in the nation following only Oregon on the AP Poll.

Texas didn’t fall back much to fifth, which makes them a College Football Playoff contender if the Selection Committee cares about the AP.

Writer’s Picks from the AP Poll Top 25

Longhorns have a Tough Road Matchup Versus 25 Vandy on Saturday

Georgia has a bye this week but Texas can’t spend too much time dwelling on the loss.

The Longhorns travel to FirstBank Stadium in Nashville to play the high IQ program that is known as the Vanderbilt Commodores.

25 Vandy is on a 3-game winning streak.

After upsetting Alabama, Vanderbilt went to Lexington and beat the Kentucky Wildcats.

Vandy is for real.

The Commodores may not beat the Longhorns, but they should cover the +18.5 spread.

NCAAF Week 9 SU Pick: Vanderbilt

Bama Falls Eight Spots to Fifteen after Losing to Tennessee on the Road

Things aren’t going well for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

At the beginning of the season, I predicted that Kalen DeBoer would struggle to field an SEC capable defense.

DeBoer’s teams at Washington could score in bunches, and so can Bama, but his defenses at Washington were too much bend but don’t break.

That doesn’t work in the SEC.

Right now, I look like a fortune teller.

I don’t want to be a fortune teller because I like Alabama and I like the Bama program.

But, wow, the team is struggling.

Losing to Tennessee can be forgiven.

It puts Alabama in a bad situation, though.

Two losses can turn into a CFP berth this season.

Three losses is College Football Playoff death.

Alabama is 2 points away from losing to South Carolina, which is the problem game in my estimation.

Vandy upsetting Alabama makes sense because Vanderbilt is a quality team.

But barely beating South Carolina in Tuscaloosa is not Alabama football.

Don’t be surprised if Mizzou adds to Bama’s woes this Saturday.

For sure consider taking the +16.5 on Missouri to cover because Brady Cook and Luther Burden III should have a field day versus the sieve Bama defense.

NCAAF Week 9 SU Pick: Missouri

LSU Takes on Texas A&M in a Game Between the Two Last Remaining Undefeated SEC Teams

The two final remaining undefeated teams in the SEC are the Texas A&M Aggies and the LSU Tigers.

The Aggies and Tigers have developed an entertaining rivalry that has become one of the best matchups in the conference.

This Saturday one team will enter College Football Week 10 with an undefeated SEC record.

LSU should be that team.

Although Texas A&M has a great defense, Brian Kelly’s squad has improved in every game since the first week loss to USC.

Texas A&M has also improved since a first week loss to Notre Dame.

But the Aggies allowed Mississippi State to score 24 in their last, which is a sign that they’ve regressed.

If you bet this one, consider backing LSU on the moneyline because A&M is the -2.5 home chalk.

NCAAF Week 9 SU Pick: LSU

Miami Gets a Free Square Versus Rival FSU this Week

6 Miami should have no trouble winning this Saturday.

Before the season started many predicted that Miami versus Florida State in College Football Week 9 would determine the winner of the ACC.

But a circled game that should be for top of the hill status in the Atlantic Coast Conference is now a game between a College Football Playoff contender and one of the worst teams in any Power 4 Conference.

FSU is 1-6 overall.

That’s a single win, over California in a ho hum 14-9 game, and 6 losses.

Only SMU and Clemson are conference contenders among the 6 losses.

The issue is now on Mike Norvell’s shoulders.

When your team is struggling the way Norvell’s, you must bench the entire starting 11 on both sides of the ball.

Give the younger players a chance.

At least they will play hard.

But Norvell has made zero changes.

Norvell’s latest gambit is to demand discipline from his team.

That won’t help against Miami, which has the exceptional Cam Ward.

The Canes should have no trouble covering the -21.5 spread.

NCAAF Week 9 SU Pick: Miami

BYU Clashes with UCF in the Big 12

BYU ranks 11th in the nation.

So it’s a bit disarming that the Cougars are +2.5 road dogs versus Central Florida, a team that has lost 4 straight.

BYU could be the road dog because the Knights’ losses were against Colorado, Florida, Cincinnati, and Iowa State.

Or it could be the fact that BYU required a last gasp TD to beat Oklahoma State in their last.

In any case, BYU has some moneyline value this Saturday.

Consider a bet if you believe the Cougars move to 8-0 and keep pace with hot Iowa State Cyclones in the conference.

NCAAF Week 9 SU Pick: BYU

Penn State Faces an Acid Test Game Versus the Wisconsin Badgers

I’m calling the upset in Penn State at Wisconsin.

If you don’t want to take the risk on bet the Badgers on the moneyline, take the points.

The Nittany Lions are a good football team but they have yet to face a legit Big Ten team.

Victories over UCLA and USC, and Penn State could have lost the game against the Trojans, don’t count.

The win over Illinois was nice but Penn State beat the Illini 21-7 in a pedestrian effort.

Wisconsin has been on a roll since early season back-to-back losses to Bama and USC.

The Badgers dominated Purdue 52-6, Rutgers 42-7 on the road, and Northwestern 23-3.

If this becomes a defensive game, and it should, Luke Fickell’s bunch has the edge.

Backing Wisconsin on the moneyline makes a lot of sense.

NCAAF Week 9 SU Pick: Wisconsin

How to get ranked in College Football 25? Let’s Find Out

To get ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll, a college football team must consistently perform at a high level throughout the season.

Here are some key factors that are considered by the voters:

1. Wins and Losses:
The most important factor is a team’s record.
Teams with more wins and fewer losses are more likely to be ranked higher.

2. Strength of Schedule:
The quality of opponents a team plays against is also taken into account.
Teams that play against tough opponents will be rewarded with higher rankings if they perform well.

3. Head-to-Head Results:
If two teams have similar records, head-to-head results can be a tiebreaker.
The team that won the head-to-head matchup will typically be ranked higher.

4. Polls:
There are several other polls that are used to rank college football teams, including the Coaches Poll and the CFP Rankings.
While the AP Poll is the most widely recognized, these other polls can also influence a team’s ranking.

5. Performance in Big Games:
Teams that perform well in big games, such as rivalry games or conference championship games, are more likely to be ranked higher.

6. Quality of Wins:
The quality of a team’s wins is also important.
Teams that beat ranked opponents or conference champions will be rewarded with higher rankings.

7. Margin of Victory:
Teams that win by large margins are more likely to be ranked higher than teams that win by close margins.

8. Momentum:
Teams that are on winning streaks or playing well at the end of the season are more likely to be ranked higher.

It’s important to note that the AP Poll is subjective and can be influenced by a variety of factors.

However, by following these guidelines, teams can improve their chances of being ranked in the Top 25.

Best Week 9 Games to Bet On From AP Poll 25 Ranked Teams

Previous Betting News

Another week, another chance to look at the College Football rankings and figure out what the betting market is telling us. The top six teams all stayed the same from the previous week but we have some new teams inside of the top 10. Today, we are going to dive into some NCAA Football Betting opportunities where we can make some money against the spread with some of the teams appearing on the AP Top 25.

Top 25 College Football Analysis and Betting Opportunities for Week 9 of the 2022 Season

Ohio State Buckeyes vs Penn State Nittany Lions

The second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes are heading to Beaver Stadium to face off against the 13th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions this weekend. However, these programs are not on the same level as Ohio State is scoring 56.2 points in their previous five games while Penn State is averaging 28 points in their last four games. Junior quarterback C.J. Stroud is definitely in the Heisman discussion with his play as in those five games, he has 22 touchdowns to four

interceptions. Go with the Buckeyes to cover 15.5 points on the road in this game.

Kentucky Wildcats vs Tennessee Volunteers

The 19th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats are on the road in Neyland Stadium this weekend to take on the third-ranked Tennessee Volunteers in a SEC matchup. Tennessee is an elite scoring offense, averaging 50.1 points per game behind their ability to throw exceptionally well with senior quarterback Hendon Hooker under center. This Kentucky defense is one of the best in the game and is the reason why they are ranked where they are as they are holding teams to just 16.1 points per game. They should be able to limit what Vounteers wide receiver Jalin Hyatt does in this game and stagnate the Tennessee offense. The underdog has covered in five of their last six games against each other so go with the Kentucky Wildcats getting 12 points on the road to limit what the Tennessee Volunteers can do offensively.

Cincinnati Bearcats vs UCF Knights

The 20th-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats are heading to the FBC Mortgage Stadium this weekend to take on the UCF Knights in an AAC matchup. The Bearcats have been ding pretty well as they are 6-1 (3-0) while the Knights are 5-2 (2-1) and are coming off of a loss. UCF depends on their running game, that is also led by senior quarterbac kJohn Rhus Plumlee, as he has 18 total touchdowns (11 passing, seven rushing). The biggest thing is the fact that this Bearcats team essentially eliminates the passing game as they are allowing 185.3 passing yards per game this season. The Knights are a good defense, but allowed 34 points to the East Carolina Pirates last week. The Cincinnati Bearcats are somehow the underdog in this game as they are getting 1.5 points in this game. Cincinnati has covered in seven of their previous eight games against teams with a winning record so easily give me the point and a half to cover the spread and sprinkle a bit on the moneyline as well.

We knew it was going to be an interesting 2022 NASCAR season as the Cup Series switched over to the Next Gen car, and that indeed was the case as 19 different drivers won a race this past year. Some people love the parity, while others think that the new setup favors being lucky rather than good.

The 2022 NASCAR postseason was interesting, with the first four races being won by non-playoff drivers. Eventually, the cream did rise to the top, with Chase Elliott, Christopher Bell, Joey Logano, and 2021 Cup Series champion Kyle Larson winning races down the stretch.

Even with all the parity during the regular season, few people could argue that Joey Logano was an undeserving 2022 Cup Series champion. Logano had three wins during the regular NASCAR season and two in the playoffs, but now the question becomes, can he repeat in 2023? Let’s take a look at this analysis for your NASCAR bets.

What to expect in the upcoming 2023 NASCAR season?

2023 Team Changes

There has always been some swapping of teams in the offseason in NASCAR, but it’s almost getting to be like an MLB trade deadline the way drivers are realigned for the 2023 season.

The biggest move is Kyle Gibbs going from Joe Gibbs Racing, where he’s been since 2008, and heading to Richard Childress Racing. This is the equivalent of Tom Brady leaving the Patriots.

Other big team changes for 2023 include Tyler Reddick leaving RCR for 23XI. This isn’t a shock because Busch was coming over, and Reddick had announced his departure in 2024, but Kurt Busch’s retirement from a full-time driver pushed up the timeline.

It’s not just ‘trades’ that are going to make 2023 interesting, but also full-time debuts. The two biggest names moving to the Cup Series full-time are Ty Gibbs, who replaces Busch at his grandfather’s JGR club, and Noah Gragson, coming off one of the more successful Xfinity regular seasons in recent memory to drive full-time for Petty GMS. A.J. Allmendinger is also returning to the Cup Series full-time for the first time since 2018.

Who Will Win the 2023 Cup Series?

It will be interesting to see if the parity of 19 different drivers winning last season calms down in year two of the Next Gen car or if that’s just how NASCAR is going to be moving forward. Logano (+650) showed a mastery of the new racing format, so he’s obviously a favorite to become the first back-to-back winner since Jimmie Johnson in 2009/2010.

The co-favorites to win the 2023 Cup Series are Chase Elliott and his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson at +600. Elliott made the final four this season, and he and Larson won the Cup Series in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Other contenders for some 2023 NASCAR Cup Series future bets are Christopher Bell (+800), who was a championship four finalist after getting hot with two wins in the playoffs. Ryan Blaney (+850) will be a hot pick as well, even though he failed to pick up a win last season.

Maybe 2023 is the year that some old dogs return to top form, too, as Denny Hamlin (+1000) had two wins in 2022 but another ten top-five finishes. Maybe a change of scenery gets Busch (+2000) back on track.

Buckle up; the Daytona 500 is right around the corner.
