That is certainly the case on Friday night with the Liberty Bowl, which sees the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Arkansas Razorbacks set to do battle in a game that the bookies essentially have as a bit of a coin flip.

Yes, it is the Razorbacks who are a modest 1.5-point favorite right now, with the total for this game set at 52.

I don’t like the way the Razorbacks closed out the season and do wonder what kind of mindset they will have coming into this one.

With that in mind, I am taking the Red Raiders to win and cover, plus I also like the OVER.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Analysis and Trends

It was not a bad season at all for the Red Raiders, who ended things with an 8-4 record. It was how they finished the season, though, that is sure to have a lot of people looking at them as the likely winner in this one.

Texas Tech ended the regular season with back-to-back wins over Oklahoma State and West Virginia, racking up 50+ points in both of those outings, while handily covering the spread in both games.

This is a team that has now won 12 of their last 17 games overall, but they are even more impressive in the month of December, where they have gone 10-2 SU in their last 12.

They have covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 games overall, but they have also been great as the underdog, going 7-3 ATS in their last 10 when carrying that label. The Red Raiders have gone OVER in 4 of their last 6 games.

Arkansas Razorbacks Analysis and Trends

The Razorbacks became bow eligible with one game remaining in the regular season, but you do have to be a little concerned about how they closed things out coming down the stretch, winning just once in their last 4 games.

There are a couple of other trends that have to make us all a little nervous, starting with the fact that the Razorbacks are 1-6 SU in their last 7 Friday games, as well as 3-9 SU in their last 12 games played in the month of December.

One trend that does make the Razorbacks look to be a solid bet is their 11-2 ATS record in their last 13 meetings against a team from the Big 12. When they play as the favorite, there tends to be a lot of scoring, with each of their last 5 games as the favorite going OVER the point total.

That is what we are getting with this one, as Memphis will be playing in their own building. This is going to be very much like a regular home game for the Tigers, but they will that be enough to keep them in a game where they are certainly a bit of an underdog. Memphis finished the season with a 9-3 record, finishing the season strong by winning 5 of their final 6 games. That’s a positive, but on the downside, they have lost each of the last 9 games that they started as an underdog. They are also a tough bet against the spread, going 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games played on a Friday. The OVER has hit in each of their last 6 games overall.

Iowa State Cyclones

It was a strange sort of season for the Cyclones, as they struggled in the first half before getting on a much better roll in the second half. They won 5 of their last 7 to close out the regular season, and when you consider that one of those losses came at the hands of the Texas Longhorns, a team that made the playoffs, their finish looks that much better. These teams have met once before, and it was Iowa State winning a close one in that meeting, but the spread suggests this one might not be quite so close. The Cyclones have covered in 5 of their last 7 games overall, but they are also 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games played in the month of December. The UNDER has hit in 14 of their last 20 games overall.

While it is certainly nice for the Memphis Tigers to have home field advantage here, I’m not so sure it will make that much of a difference in the end. I like the Cyclones to win, but I also think the Tigers might cover the spread. I also like the OVER in this one.
