March Madness Against The Spread Picks & Lines for Sweet 16 Betting Games

While seedings are certainly important when heading into March Madness, we have seen that they very often count for little, as surprises and upsets are just one small part of what makes the NCAA tournament so much fun to watch and wager on. We have seem a few of the top seeds already bite the bullet through the opening two rounds, and as we head into the Sweet 16, we should probably accept that we will see more upsets before all is said and done That said, I do think we will see the two remaining #1 seeds move on into the Elite 8, but will they cover the spread in doing so? That is what we are going to look at here as we put together our ATS picks for the Sweet 16, so let’s jump right in.

NCAA Sweet 16 Betting ATS Picks | March Madness Lines

Alabama Crimson Tide (-7 ½) Vs San Diego State Aztecs

When: Friday, 6:30 PM ET
Where: KFC Yum! Center – Louisville, KY
TV: TBS

We are going to take both of the #1 seeds to win and cover, starting with Alabama, who have looked very strong through the opening 2 rounds. While the Crimson Tide failed to cover in Round 1, they were a 24 ½ point favorite and took the foot off the gas after building up a big lead to stroll comfortably into the second round. They covered big in their next game and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 overall, as well as in 9 of their last 11 played on a Friday night. The Aztecs have covered the spread in both tournament games, but they are running into a buzzsaw in this one, which is why I am all over Alabama to cover.

Houston Cougars (-7) Vs Miami Hurricanes

When: Friday, 7:15 PM ET
Where: T-Mobile Center – Kansas City, MO
TV: CBS

The other #1 seed still in the tournament is the Houston Cougars, who have a tricky one against the Miami Hurricanes coming up in the Sweet 16. Like Alabama, the Cougars failed to cover in Round 1 while still winning comfortably, but they made up for that with an easy win and cover over Auburn in the previous round. While they have not been a reliable bet against the spread of late, they have covered in each of their last 5 meetings versus teams from the ACC. When you combine that with the fact that the Hurricanes are just 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games overall, you get to the decision that the Cougars look like a good bet to cover the spread on Friday.

Creighton Bluejays (-10) Vs Princeton Tigers

When: Friday, 9:00 PM ET
Where: KFC Yum! Center – Louisville, KY
TV: TBS

We all love a good Cinderella story, and the Princeton Tigers have certainly lived up to that billing this year, making it into the Sweet 16 as the #15 seed. Unlike fairy tales, which tend to have a happy ending, I think this is one that is about to come to an unhappy end for the Tigers. In fairness to Princeton, not only have they been winning, they have also covered the spread in their last 6 games, but I believe they have gone as far as they can, and probably further, even. Creighton are a great pick in the month of March, covering the spread in 10 of their last 11 games, which includes both of their tournament games. More of the same here.
