St Louis Cardinals Betting Prediction: Road to the MLB 2023 Season

St Louis Cardinals Betting Prediction: Road to the MLB 2023 Season

The Cardinals are coming off their fourth straight trip to the postseason and fourth straight year that ended with postseason disappointment. In the history of the National League’s most decorated franchise, four straight years in the playoffs without a trip to the World Series is their longest streak.

Only once in their history have they been in the playoffs for five consecutive years – 2011 to 2015 – and twice during that streak, they won the N.L. pennant, and there was a World Series win over the Texas Rangers in 2011.

Can they make 2023 another five-year postseason streak? Check out MyBookie’s Cardinals betting odds and predictions for 2023 MLB Season.

St Louis Cardinals: 2023 Season Prediction

Odds to Win National League Central
Player Odds
St. Louis Cardinals +130
Milwaukee Brewers +170
Chicago Cubs +600
Pittsburgh Pirates +6000
Cincinnati Reds +6500

The Cardinals are the only team in the N.L. Central paying negative money on a division win. Winning the Central this year would make it three division titles in five years. Even though they were the division champions in 2022, they lost in the Wild Card Series.

The only other real contender in the Central division is Milwaukee, who just missed out on their own five-year postseason streak at the end of the 2022 season. They also made the head-scratching decision to trade closer Josh Hader while they were in first place.

For the St. Louis Cardinals, it’s about continuity. And why not? This team keeps winning, so don’t fix what isn’t broken. There is a new backstop in St. Louis this season with the retirement of Yadier Molina. Top prospect Jordan Walker is likely to begin the season in the Majors, starting in the outfield. But other than Walker and Willson Contreras, the lineup and roster looks the same as last year.

Will the Cardinals Make the Playoffs?

The short answer is yes. The slightly longer answer, but still concise and to the point, is that bookmakers are only paying -240 on St. Louis making a return trip to the postseason. So if they fail to win the National League Central, they are expected to be a Wild Card team.

The only possible surprise outcome to the 2023 season in St. Louis will be if the Cardinals aren’t playing in October.

National League MVP Odds
Player Odds
Juan Soto +450
Mookie Betts +800
Ronald Acuna Jr. +900
Manny Machado +950
Nolan Arenado +1000

One of the returning Cardinals is among the favorites to win the N.L. MVP award this season, third baseman Nolan Arenado. Last year, Paul Goldschmidt finally put it all together for the Cardinals, winning his first MVP award. Maybe this is the year that Arenado finally ascends to that height.

Like Goldy before him, Arenado has hovered around the top of the league, both in his time in Colorado and these last two years in St. Louis. He’s won five Silver Sluggers, has been to the All-Star Game seven times, and has 10 Gold Gloves.

If the stars like Arenado, Goldschmidt, Dylan Carlson, Tommy Erdman, and rookie Jordan Walker come to play, this team will be a World Series favorite. At the moment, a World Series bet on the Cardinals pays +2200.
