Analyzing The 5 Betting Tips That Will Get You Ready For The NFL Season

Identify teams on the Rise

One of the first and best things you can do prior to the start of the season is to identify teams that are on the rise and will likely be better than they were the year before. Teams that closed out the previous season strong or added game-changing players in the offseason fit the category as do teams with young and improving quarterbacks.

For example, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans are both perfect examples of teams that fit this description. Both, Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota are clearly franchise signal-callers that are still improving as are their respective teams, which ironically, both went an encouraging 9-7 last season. Another team that could fit in this category is the Philadelphia Eagles after they brought in veteran wide receivers Alshon Jeffrey and Torrey Smith.

Identify Teams Set to Take a Step Backwards

Next, you want to identify teams that are strong candidates to take a step or two backwards in the coming season. A handful of teams each year are assuredly not going to improve on their previous season for various reasons like losing key free agents, foolish front office personnel decisions and poor coaching.

Could the Dallas Cowboys or maybe the Oakland raiders fall into this category after overachieving in 2016? Maybe the run-starved Minnesota Vikings will miss Adrian Peterson more than they ever imagined and last but not least, the Chicago bears could miss wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey a bunch seeing as how Kevin White can’t stay healthy.

ATS Success?

The next thing you need to do is identify teams that have been consistent ATS winners, over, let’s say, the last three seasons. While you will need to account for roster losses and additions and other similar factors, if you can find consistent ATS winning franchises, then you’re going to be much better off heading into the 2017 regular season. For instance, did you know that Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are the only team in the NFL to finish inside the top nine in ATS victories in each of the last three seasons?

Did you know that Pittsburgh has finished with a winning ATS mark in three straight seasons or that Washington finished inside the Top 10 in each of the last two years? In addition to that, you should know the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys have all finished inside the Top 9 in two of the last three seasons.

  Identify ATS Losers

Identify ATS Losers

Just like looking for consistent ATS winners is always a great idea, finding consistent ATS losing teams can be just as profitable, if not more so.

The perennially pitiful Cleveland Browns and awful San Francisco 49ers both finished in the bottom five in ATS wins in each of the two straight seasons while the New York Jets have done so twice in the last three seasons. Tennessee also finished in the bottom five two straight seasons prior to last year, but I wouldn’t necessarily go around expecting that to happen again any time in the near future.

The Heart of the Matter

Last but certainly not least, one of the biggest and best tips I can give you is to remind you to never, ever, ever, under any circumstance whatsoever, make a wager based on your heart as opposed to your brain. This means you may want to avoid wagering on your favorite team for the vast majority of the season, thereby eliminating any chance of you making this age-old betting mistake.
